Some Helpful Energy Saving Tips

Saving energy is a must these days. The lower your utility bills is, the more money back in your bank account. And lower energy bills also means less energy consumed, which means less harmful emissions released into our environment.

– Make a rule of turning off lights and appliances when not in use. Make sure everyone in the household stick to the rule.

– Replace standard bulbs with CFLs. Compact fluorescent light bulbs are more energy-efficient than regular bulbs, while giving off the same amount of light. CFLs are four times more efficient and last about eight times as long too.

– When buying appliances, choose the one with Environmental Protection Agency’s Energy Star label.  Energy Star appliances use between 10 and 50 percent less energy and water than their conventional counterparts. They don’t just save you money, but they’re good for the environment because they use less energy.

-Instead of taking baths, take short showers instead. A five-minute shower uses about half as much water as a bath.

-Using a low-flow shower head can save up to 15 per cent of hot water costs; aerators on your sink faucets can reduce water use by about 10 per cent.

-Save energy by using small appliances such as a microwave, slow cooker, electric kettle or toaster oven rather than the stove.

-To avoid using electric iron, fold your clothes after taking them out of the dryer while they are still warm to prevent wrinkling. Electric iron uses a lot of energy.

-Instead of buying a desktop computers, opt for laptops. Aside from the fact that they are more convenient to carry around, they use less energy as well.

– Refrain yourself from using screen saver, they tend to use more energy rather than setting your computer to sleep or hibernate mode during standby.

-Use carpets or rugs. They help with heat retention while giving you warmth and comfort.
